TANCO Hosts Educational Field Trip, Inspiring Local Students About Modern Mining

8

On October 30, 2025, to strengthen community ties and spark local students’ interest in modern mining, TANCO opened its doors to over 30 Grade 12 students from the Sunrise School Division, curating an informative and hands-on educational field trip.

The visit allowed students to gain an in-depth understanding of TANCO, a leading local mining enterprise. TANCO employees delivered a series of presentations covering geology, modern mining technologies, and the company’s long-standing history. Beyond professional knowledge, the sessions also included insights into corporate culture, environmental management, and the company’s long-term vision for sustainable resource development.

“We’re Not Just Giving a Tour—We’re Planting a Seed”

“This is more than just a visit; it’s about planting a seed,” said Mathieu Thevonot, Senior Human Resources Manager at TANCO. “We want these students to see the diverse and valuable career opportunities right here in their hometown. Modern mining is a high-tech sector that urgently needs engineers, geologists, skilled tradespeople, and environmental scientists.”

Behind this initiative lies TANCO’s deep-rooted community commitment: approximately 80% of the company’s employees are from the surrounding Lac du Bonnet area, and “integrating into the community and giving back” has long been a cultural cornerstone of its development. By organizing such educational field trips, TANCO not only builds a responsible corporate image but also fulfills its commitment to local youth development and the long-term growth of the regional economy.

Educators from the Sunrise School Division praised the program’s connection to real life. “This experience brings textbook knowledge to life,” said an accompanying teacher. “It charts a clear path for our students toward higher education and potential careers, while also emphasizing the importance of environmental responsibility.”

From Philosophy to Action

The field trip perfectly embodies TANCO’s operating philosophy: “Do good, and all things will follow.” By investing in youth education, the company not only fulfills its social responsibility but also actively cultivates a future talent pool. Its goal is to encourage students to pursue further studies and enter fields such as trades, engineering, and earth sciences, nurturing a high-quality workforce for the future development of Manitoba’s mining industry.

The successful implementation of this field trip has further solidified TANCO’s position as a key educational hub in the local community. It also demonstrates that corporate responsibility and community empowerment can form a positive cycle of mutual benefit. When enterprises take the initiative to become “participants” in education, they not only inject momentum into youth growth but also lay a solid talent foundation for the industry’s future.
