On 9 July 2026, Wang Pingwei, Chairman and President of Sinomine Resource Group Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Sinomine Resource"), met with H.E. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, President of the Republic of Namibia, in Beijing.
The meeting carried particular significance: it took place during President Nandi-Ndaitwah's first state visit to China following her assumption of office, and Sinomine Resource was the first Chinese enterprise to be received by the President in Beijing.
During the meeting, Wang Pingwei briefed President Nandi-Ndaitwah in detail on the latest operating status of the Company's Tsumeb Smelter, as well as Sinomine Resource's overall investment footprint in Namibia and its medium- to long-term development plans. The two sides held in-depth and pragmatic discussions on a number of core issues, including the construction progress of the polymetallic recovery project at the Tsumeb Smelter, technological upgrade and revamp of the smelter, and work visas for foreign technical personnel.
Wang Pingwei noted that the Tsumeb Smelter, in operation since 1963, has a history of more than 60 years and stands as a highly representative piece of Namibia's industrial heritage. He said Sinomine Resource considers it a privilege to be continuing this legacy. The Company has launched a modernization and upgrade program at the Tsumeb Smelter, focused on the recovery of multiple metals — including germanium, gallium, lead and zinc — from historical tailings and under-utilized mineral resources at the site. The program carries three significant values: first, it addresses legacy mining pollution, rehabilitates mine-site land, unlocks the value of land resources, and resolves long-standing environmental issues; second, it drives the upgrading of Namibia's local beneficiation and smelting industry and enables more efficient use of resources; and third, it creates local employment, introduces advanced technologies, cultivates talent, and stimulates broader industrial development. With professional capability and a sense of responsibility, Sinomine Resource will bring new vitality to this historic smelter.
President Nandi-Ndaitwah highly commended the polymetallic recovery program at Tsumeb and pledged the Namibian government's full support. She noted that the program genuinely "turns waste into treasure" — converting smelting slag into high-value metal feedstock. It also aligns precisely with the core development priorities of the Namibian government: expanding local employment, introducing advanced overseas technologies, strengthening domestic industrial capacity, and increasing the value-added of mineral processing.
