Recently, Wang Pingwei, Chairman and President of Sinomine Resource Group Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Sinomine”), visited Sinomine Tsumeb Smelter Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Tsumeb Smelter”) in Namibia. During the visit, he inspected project construction progress and outlined priorities for the next stage of production and operations.
At a meeting with employees, Chairman Wang reviewed progress reports and work plans from each department. He stressed the need to accelerate construction of the Phase II project and bring it into operation as early as possible. He also called for better coordination of resources and the proper resolution of legacy issues.
Chairman Wang noted that the most difficult period had passed and encouraged all employees to remain confident, work together, and continue advancing the project.
Lou Yonggang, General Manager of Tsumeb Smelter, reported that the Phase II project was expected to receive government support, recruitment of technical personnel had begun, and efforts were continuing to address technical challenges related to the rotary kiln. He added that the project team would continue identifying gaps, improving efficiency, and reducing costs.
At the groundbreaking ceremony for the Phase II Polymetallic Recovery Project, Chairman Wang said the project, with a total investment of NAD 4 billion, represents an important step in Sinomine’s commitment to green mining, the circular economy, and deeper China–Namibia cooperation. The project is expected to create additional local employment and support the implementation of Namibia’s Sixth National Development Plan.
Lou Yonggang reflected on the difficult period of suspension and restructuring, expressing appreciation for the trust and support of the Group, the Namibian government, employees, and their families. He said the project would work to transform legacy challenges into resource value, economic benefits, and improved environmental outcomes.
Chairman Wang’s visit at this critical stage helped clarify priorities, identify practical solutions, and build consensus for the construction and future operation of Phase II. It also further strengthened cooperation between the Chinese and Namibian teams in technology, management, and workplace culture.
With the Phase II Polymetallic Recovery Project now under construction, Tsumeb Smelter is accelerating its transformation from a traditional smelting facility into a green, circular, and high-value integrated resource recovery base. The project aims to become another example of sustainable development and mutually beneficial cooperation by a Chinese enterprise in Africa.
