on June 19th 2025, the sky was clear and cloudless in the Mumbwa District of Central Province, Zambia. Sinomine Kitumba Minerals Company Limited held a grand groundbreaking ceremony for the D181 Road Upgrade Project, marking the official launch of this major infrastructure project that benefits the people. Hon. Credo Nanjuwa, the Governor of Southern Province and Member of Parliament for Mumbwa, Mr. Godfrey Chitambala, Deputy Permanent Secretary of Central Province, Madam Namukulo Munalula Hayumbu, District Commissioner of Mumbwa, and nearly 200 local community leaders, media representatives, and representatives of Sinomine Kitumba Company gathered together to witness this historic moment.
The ceremony officially kicked off at 11 a.m. in Mumbwa. Mr. Bai Yunzheng, the Engineering Department Manager of Zambian Copperbelt Mining Company, delivered a speech on behalf of the company. He emotionally stated, "This road not only carries vehicles and goods, but also the aspirations of the Mumbwa community for a better life." According to Mr. Bai, the project will widen the existing road to 11 meters and upgrade the drainage system simultaneously. It is expected to be completed by December 2025. After completion, the road's traffic capacity will increase by 40% and transportation time will be reduced by 30%.
Mr. Nanjuwa, the Southern Province Governor, highly praised the contribution of Zambian Copperbelt Mining Company in his speech: "This is not just an upgrade of a road, but a development path leading to prosperity. It fully demonstrates the responsibility and commitment of Chinese enterprises and is another testament to the friendship between Zambia and China." The governor particularly emphasized that the project will create over 200 local jobs and train a group of local infrastructure talents through "technical mentorship and guidance", achieving thesustainable development goal of "building a road and benefiting a community".
Subsequently, the ceremony reached its climax - the unveiling ceremony of the new nameplate for D181 road. Mr. Nanjuwa slowly lifted the red cloth covering the foundation stone of the road, and the audience burst into prolonged applause. "Mumbwa Sinomine Kitumba Road - Sponsored by Sinomine Kitumba for Construction", this naming transcended commercial logic and completed the transformation from economic value to social value, expressing gratitude and praise for Sinomine Kitumba Company's fulfillment of social responsibilities to the government and people of Mumbwa. With the first shovel of soil being dropped, the upgrade project of D181 road officially began.
